If you’ve been searching for a brown eyeliner look tutorial that’s soft, smokey, and wearable, this post is for you. I used two of my favorite long-wearing liners from Stila’s Stay All Day Smudge & Set Waterproof Gel Eyeliner line to create a look that’s perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to try a smudged eyeliner look that still feels clean and polished.
This combo really makes the eyes pop and works beautifully for daytime glam or a night out. Plus, the technique could totally be swapped out with other fun shades to suit your style. Bonus: everything I used is smudge-resistant and holds up all day.

- Stila Stay All Day Smudge & Set Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Espresso and Damsel Dark Brown
- Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara
- Omnia BOM-435 Smudge Brush
Step-by-Step Brown Eyeliner Look Tutorial
1. Line the Top Lash Line
I started by lining my upper lash line from inner to outer corner using Espresso. I focused on keeping the line thinner in the inner corner and thicker towards the outer. Then I grabbed my Omnia BOM-435 brush and smudged the line before it fully set to soften the edges. Applying more liner as needed for desired intensity after blending.
2. Define with a Darker Wing
Using Damsel Dark Brown, I created both an inner and outer corner wing. Then I blended Damsel into Espresso with the same brush so the transition was seamless.
3. Tightline for Depth
I tightlined the upper waterline with Damsel and the lower waterline with Espresso for added depth.
4. Smoke Out the Lower Lash Line
I used Espresso below tight to the lower lashes and smudged it out with the BOM-435 brush to create a soft, smoky effect.
5. Finish with Waterproof Mascara
After curling my lashes, I applied the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara for volume, definition, and a curl that lasts.
🖤 Final Thoughts
This soft brown eyeliner look adds definition without the harshness of black. It’s beginner-friendly, wearable, and holds up all day.
