You can never go wrong with a classic, sultry brown smokey eye. It’s such a versatile makeup look that’s flattering on almost anyone and doesn’t require too many eyeshadows. Today, I’ve created a brown smokey eye look featuring a sultry smokey lower lash line, tight-lined eyes, and winged inner corners. This look would be perfect for a party, a night out, or any occasion where you want your eyes to be the star of the show. The look is fairly simple, and I’ve included a video above with a step-by-step tutorial that can walk you through it.
Step One: I always start my looks off with a smooth base. For this look, I used the Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer*, evenly blending it out and setting it with translucent powder.
Step Two: With the Patrick Ta Major Dimension III palette I’m applying a brown eyeshadow in the outer corner to add depth using a Luxie 235 brush*. Softly blend out all the edges and create a V-like shape in the outer corner, bringing it about halfway in.
Step Three: Add a pop of soft shimmer on the lid using the Jones Road Just a Sec Eyeshadow in the shade Cool Taupe*. Lightly feather the edges to get rid of any harsh lines using a Morphe H2 brush.
Step Four: With the Morphe H2* brush again, apply white into the inner corner of the eye, feathering out the edges to get rid of any harsh lines and blending into the cool taupe shade on the lid.
Step Five: Once again with the Morphe H2* brush, tap on a glittery pigment—I used Karla Cosmetics in the shade Moody Cow*—using whatever is left on the brush to fade out the edges.
Step Six: Using Loreal Infallible Gel Liner in shade Brown Denim*, tightline the eyes, then line the upper lash line, making the line thinner in the inner corner and gradually thicker towards the outer corner. Repeat the same on the lower lash line, keeping the line thinner towards the inner corner.
Step Seven: With a flat smudge brush, smoke out the top gel eyeliner, being careful not to blend it up too high. Use a darker shade of brown than used previously in the outer corner. Then further smoke out the top edge of the liner with the same shade used in the outer corner to ensure everything is blended. I used a flat shader brush that I found at the craft store; it’s by Masters Touch, number 1000.
Step Eight: With a flat smudge brush again, smoke out the lower lash line gel liner, just diffusing the existing product with no additional eyeshadow, creating a smokey eye look on the lower lash line.
Step Nine: With the Too Faced Better Than Sex Liner in shade Chocolate*, add an inner corner wing. I have a detailed blog post here, on how to create this.
Step Ten: Curl the lashes; I used the Velour Lash curler*.
Step Eleven: Add a light coat of mascara using the Too Faced Naturally Better than Sex Mascara*.
Step Twelve: Last but not least, apply a pair of false lashes. I used the Ardell 424 Naked Lashes*.
Then, that completes the eyeshadow look. You can follow the same process with different colors to create new looks. Check out this other smokey eye look I created.
