I was running into my local drugstore in May 2023 for some snacks when I saw a display for the Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lip Color. Always on the lookout for affordable, long-wear lipsticks, I picked up the shade 110 Awestruck. After trying it at home, I loved the color; it was the perfect pinky nude for me, and the formula felt smooth.
Now, I’ve tried even more shades, all of which I’ve really enjoyed. I’m including swatch videos below, but due to lighting differences, my camera, and my skin tone/undertone, the color shown may not be exact. The lipstick comes in a block-shaped tube with a screw-on cap. The directions recommend shaking it before application. The applicator, made of a soft felt-like material, is at a slight angle with a smaller tip, allowing for a sharp application.
Avoid pressing your lips together while the product is drying. Once dried, the texture may feel a bit tacky, but it tends to go away after a little bit I’ve noticed. The formula can feel a little drying towards the end of the day for me if my lips are not super hydrated, but I find this with many long-wear lipsticks. Staying hydrated and moisturizing the lips beforehand may help.
Regarding longevity, it really depends on what you eat maybe. I’ve noticed some foods break down the formula. For example, greasy chicken wings changed the texture a bit. It could even be certain drinks that wear it down throughout the day.
To help longevity prior to application, I like cleaning my lips of any foundation residue with a cotton swab and makeup remover/micellar water for a clean base.
I’ve worn the lipstick for 10 hours through meals and snacks. It fades a bit but stays put, and I think it still looks great. Sometimes, I even have a hard time removing it at the end of the day. How long it lasts will vary from person to person. After posting about these lipsticks on Instagram, I got to hear other people’s opinions and experiences. Some didn’t enjoy the texture, and for some, the staying power didn’t work as well for them. As with anything, everyone’s opinion/experience will vary, and what works for someone might not work for another. Have you tried these, what did you think and whats your favorite shade?
