When I think of holiday makeup, one of the first looks that comes to mind is a bright Red Lipstick. I just love the look of a bright bold red on the lips, it just looks so festive and pairs well with golden eye makeup. There are so many gatherings and special occasions during the holiday season which are often the perfect opportunity to debut your favorite red lipsticks for that classic look.
However the holidays are often filled with lots of food and long days where a long-lasting red lipstick may be necessary. I also find it important to have a transfer resistance formula so you don’t end up eating your lipstick off your glass or desert. I’ve found long wear liquid lipsticks are a great way to avoid your lipstick transferring, or having to re-apply later in the day. For today’s lipstick swatch I’ve applied the Beauty Bakerie Mini Matte Lip Whip in shade Bowl of Cherries, it has a matte smooth formula with a classic bright red hue, it’s such a perfect red lipstick for the holiday season. It has a long wear formula, so long lasting that they even sell a remover to assist in taking it off.
The liquid lipstick formula and is very pigmented with excellent color payoff and a great choice for the holiday season due to it’s staying power. The lipstick comes with a felt tip applicator which is soft and allows for a smooth soft application to the lips
To get the longest wear time one tip I do have is to apply the product to clean lips. One little trick I do, is apply my face makeup over my lips and go about my whole routine. Then I’ll use a cotton swab and micellar water to remove any foundation, oil or residue from my lips and let it dry before application. This also allows me to get a sharp, defined look to the edges of my lips. I really like these pointed cotton swabs I order from Amazon and this micellar water. To ensure the formula doesn’t feel sticky afterwards as well, let the product dry down completely and wait for the matte look, before pressing your lips together.
I do want to mention that this being a dry down liquid matte formula, isn’t the most hydrating. I wouldn’t suggest this for everyday wear as it may dry your lips out a bit. I’ve found that to keep my lips most hydrated prior to application I try to stay hydrated during the day, and keep my lips moisturized with a lip mask or lip balm at night.
I’ll often use a lip scrub as well to exfoliate my lips prior to application as well just to ensure everything applies smoothly. The formula can show more of the fine lines in your lips as well when it drys down.
If this exact shade isn’t your cup of tea, the formula is also available in a few different shades in the mini lip whip size. However even more shades are available in the full size lip whip formula on the Beauty Bakerie website with some excellent swatch photos for you to find your perfect shade. Everyones favorite shade of red lipstick is definitely personal preference, and may vary depending on the makeup look you are going for.
Holiday Makeup Look Idea
I think this matte red lipstick would be a great option for a classic pin up makeup look, with a winged liner and defined brows. Or maybe even paired with a golden or silver glittery eyeshadow look.
The long time staying power of this lipstick formula makes it a great choice for the holidays and parties. If matte isn’t your thing also check out another one of my favorite long wear lipsticks the Maybelline Vinyl Ink which has a vinyl like finish.
